Gastown Steam Clock, Vancouver Canada

I love it when I'm in Gastown, either at the Water Street Cafe or just passing by on the street, and the Steam Clock starts Steaming up and Whistling. There's always Tourists gathered around the clock, taking pictures. It's truly Unique..The Steam Clock is a must see when your here in Vancouver.

The Steam Clock stands on a street corner of Gastown in Vancouver, and is one of the World's only functioning Steam Clocks. It is powered by steam from an underground system of pipes that supply steam to heat many of the downtown buildings of Vancouver, BC. Every quarter of an hour the Gastown Steam Clock sounds its Whistle and you can watch the steam shoot from the vents at the top of the clock. If you look through the glass panels on the side of the Steam Clock you will see how the steel balls are raised to the top of the clock under steam power and then they slowly fall to create the power to make the steam clock work. Steam powered time telling at its best!

While in Historic Gastown make sure to check out some of the great Souvenir Shops, walk the Cobblestone Streets and then eat at a nice café or restaurant like the Old Spaghetti Factory for a bite. They have pretty good food, and they've mastered the pasta dish!

Come watch the clock spew steam into the air and then tuck into Starbucks for a steamy cup of latte!

Much Love from Vancouver Canada! Sandy :)
